Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to the foothills of Mountain Rwenzori

Transfer to Mountain Rwenzori: Depending on your location, our professional driver guide will pick you up and you’ll be briefed about the 10 days Mountain Rwenzori hiking safari trip. Then set off for Kasese with lunch en route. You will continue to the foothills of Montains of the moon. Arrive at the park, have enough time to rest and prepare for your trip the next day. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Begin to explore Mountain Rwenzori

Begin to explore Mountain Rwenzori: On day 2, you’ll wake up amazed and psyched to start your hike on the Rwenzori mountains. Your driver guide will transfer you to Nyakalengija “1646 meters” to have a briefing and begin your hike into the Rwenzori ranges. You’ll meet locals who’ll hike with you and help you carry some of your luggage uphill. Having done this over and over again, the climb will be easier for them and they’ll thus be of great help.

This hike will take you to along River Mubuku through the thick vegetation arriving at Nyabitaba hut “2651 meters” where you’ll spend your night.

Day 3: Hike to John Matte hut

Hike to John Matte hut: Wake up enthusiastically to continue the hike, have early breakfast and hike through a bridge across River Mubuku. Your overnight stay, will be at John Matte Hut so hike past Myamuleju hut with the exciting views of Mount Stanley and Peak depending on the weather conditions. You will climb passing through some open patches, lobelia and healthy moss forest to the John Matte hut “3503 meters” for your overnight stay.

Day 4: Hiking to Bujuku hut

Hiking to Bujuku hut: Wake up, have breakfast with Lake Bujuku “3962 meters” being the highlight of the day. The hike will begin early in the morning through the giant lobelia before you arrive at Bujuku heart for an overnight stay.

Day 5: Hiking to Elena hut

Hiking to Elena hut: Today’s plan will be wake up early and have breakfast, begin to ascend Mount Speke and Mount Victoria from the valley with rewarding Alpine vegetation consisting of of Giant Groundsels and lobelia. You’ll hike through the glaciers inroder to reach Elena hut “4541 meters” for your overnight stay.

Day 6: Final ascend to snowcapped Margherita

Final ascend to snowcapped Margherita: Today you’ll ascend up to the highest peak of Mountain Rwenzori called Margherita.

Wake up early, have breakfast to begin the hike. You might descend back to Lake Kitandara hut on the same hut. You’ll begin the hike to Alexander peak “5092 meters” and continue to the highest peak at 5109 meters , finally to the famous Margherita peak. You’ll enjoy a photgraphy session at thhis peak before you begin your descent to Lake Kitandara for an overnight stay at Kitandara hut “4020 meters”.

Day 7: Descend to Guy Yeoman hut

Descend to Guy Yeoman hut: After an early breakfats, you’ll begin to descend to Guy Yeoman hut “3505 meters”, having a picnic lunch on the way, while taking in the magnificent views of the DR Congo. The day will end with an overnight stay at Guy Yeoman hut.

Day 8: Descend to Nyabitaba hut

Descend to Nyabitaba hut: Today after breakfast, this marks part of our last hike that will drop steeply along River Mubuku and joins the original route close to River Bujuku and Nyabitaba hut “2651 meters”. Enjoy the last moments of the mountain before the next day comes. An overnight stay at Nyabitaba hut.

Day 9: Hike to Kasese

Hike to Kasese: On this day, after breakfast, we shall begin your last descent to Nyakalengija which was the beginning point of our hiking journey. Meet your driver to drive you to your hotel in Kasese.

Day 10: End of Mountain Rwenzori safari trip

After breakfast, we leave for Kampala and prepare for departure at Entebbe airport.
