Itinerary Timeline

To the Mountains of the Moon

Day 1: Transfer to Kasese

Pick up and transfer to the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains in Kasese. Briefing and preparation for the hike.

The Ascent Begins

Day 2: Nyakalengija (1646m) to Nyabitaba (2651m)

Hike along River Mubuku through thick vegetation. Meet locals and porters who will assist you.

Into the Bamboo

Day 3: Nyabitaba to John Matte Hut (3503m)

Cross the Kurt Shafer Bridge. Hike past Nyamuleju hut with views of Mount Stanley. Pass through bamboo and moss forest.

Lake Bujuku

Day 4: John Matte to Bujuku Hut (3962m)

Proceed to hike through the giant lobelia zone. Reach Lake Bujuku, a highlight of the entire trail.

Approaching the Glaciers

Day 5: Bujuku to Elena Hut (4541m)

Ascend Mount Speke and Mount Victoria. Reach Elena Hut, the base for the final summit push.

The Summit

Day 6: Elena to Margherita Peak (5109m) to Kitandara

Early morning ascent to the snow-capped Margherita Peak. Photo session at the top. Descend to Kitandara Hut.

The Descent

Day 7: Kitandara to Guy Yeoman Hut (3505m)

Descend while taking in magnificent views of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Picnic lunch on the way.

Back to the Trees

Day 8: Guy Yeoman to Nyabitaba Hut (2651m)

Steep drop along River Mubuku joining the original route. Enjoy the last night on the mountain.

Off the Mountain

Day 9: Nyabitaba to Kasese

Final descent to Nyakalengija. Meet your driver and transfer to a hotel in Kasese for a well-deserved rest.

Departure

Day 10: Kasese to Kampala/Entebbe

Transfer from Equator Monument in Kayabwe to Entebbe Airport via Kampala for your flight back home.
